How to tell your spring is the problem

- You heard a loud bang from the garage (the spring snapping) — often overnight or on a cold morning.
- The door won't lift, or the opener strains, hums, and gives up about 6 inches off the floor.
- There's a visible gap in the coiled spring on the bar above the door.
- Lifting by hand, the door feels like it weighs 200 lbs — because the spring that normally carries the weight is gone.
Do not keep hitting the opener button — you'll burn out the motor or strip the gears, turning a spring job into a spring-and-opener job.
Why we replace springs in pairs (and why high-cycle costs more)
